Face Finish

Natural stone can be polished, honed, leathered or flamed for a distinct appearance:

Polished

Honed

A polished finish has a glossy surface that reflects light and emphasizes the colour and marking of the stone. This finish is typically used on walls, furniture tops, and floor tiles.

A honed finish is a satin-smooth surface with relatively little light reflection. It is generally preferred for floors, stair treads, thresholds, and other areas where heavy traffic will wear off a polished finish. We offer different grades of honing ranging from a semi-polished to completely dull.

Leathered

Flamed

A leathered or antiqued finish is obtained by running diamond brushes over the surface area of the stone. This finish gives a bumpy “orange peal” effect that adds depth to the surface. It can be executed on any type of stone (marble, quartzite, granite, limestone) however the finish texture will depend on the composition of the particular material. We strongly recommend this finish for transition areas such mudrooms, cottage counters, rustic fireplaces, centerpiece islands etc. This gives the material an organic look and feeling.

A flamed finish is an extremely rough-textured surface that is only suitable for floors. This service is not available at Marble and Marble Ltd.
